BLAST CABINET QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Blast Cabinet picture -How to use and care for your blast cabinet

Q Why do I need an abrasive blast cabinet?
A

With an abrasive blast cabinet you can clean your parts without the mess a pressure blaster or grinding will cause.  It will allow you to place your parts safely inside to remove contaminants such as rust, scale, or dirt while working in the comfort of your shop; and no other prep is required before painting.
Q What abrasives can be used?
A
Glass beads are the most often used media for automotive parts, but any dry abrasive can be used depending on desired surface finish.
Q How do I add abrasive to the cabinet?
A By opening the window and pouring in the media.
Q How much media is required?
A Approximately 50 lbs.
Q Does the abrasive recycle?
A
Yes.  When the foot pedal is pressed, abrasive is pulled through the pickup tube and exits the gun, blasts the part, and then falls back into the bottom and then the cycle repeats.
Q How long does the abrasive last?
A The abrasive will eventually break down into flour-like consistency, then it needs to be replaced.
Q What size gun and how much air do I need?
A
Match the gun to the size of your air compressor.  A 5 H.P. air compressor will work well with the 12 C.F.M gun, which is standard on most cabinets.  However, a 24 C.F.M. or 40 C.F.M. gun is available.
Q How much air pressure do I need?
A
Our guns are designed to use between 5 P.S.I. and 90 P.S.I. which is adjustable by the built-in regulator and is changed for different media and finishes.
Q Do I need a dust collector?
A Yes, and a matching dust collector is included when we ship your cabinet.
Q What type of light do I need?
A
Your cabinet comes with a fluorescent light that mounts on the top so it does NOT interfere with your work area and gives sufficient light without the heat a flood lamp will cause.
Q How long will it take me to begin blasting?
A
Our cabinets are shipped assembled and require only mounting the light, hooking up the foot pedal, and connecting the hose to the dust collector.   All of this can be done in less than 15 minutes.
