Before you buy a trailer
from anyone, you need to know the answers to these questions.
- What are you going to use the
trailer for?
Moving, lawn care, haul cars or equipment, display, man toys,
trash, storage, local or long distance hauling?
- Do you want an enclosed or open
trailer?
Do you mind if your items get wet, dirty or stolen?
- What is the size of the items
you will put in the trailer?

Make sure your items will fit and allow room to move.
- Make sure the weight of your
items is less than the load capacity of the trailer.
- What is the G.V.W.R. of the tow
vehicle and of the trailer?
Never exceed the capacity of either.
- Do you want a trailer with
brakes?
If your trailer has brakes, it will stop faster. If the trailer
has brakes the brakes on the tow vehicle will last longer and
not get as hot. Trailers with more than one axle are required to
have brakes on at least one axle.
- Do you want torsion or spring
axle?
Spring axles cost less but, the ride is a little rougher.
Torsion never breaks, last longer and gives a smoother ride.
- What style and how many doors do
you want?
Do you want a ramp door at the rear or double doors? Will
you need a side door? Be sure your items fit in the door.
G.V.W.R. stand for Gross Vehicle
Weight Rating, which means the weight of the vehicle and everything
in it. Including the weight of the passengers.
Curb weight means the weight of the
empty trailer.
Load capacity means the weight of the
items your putting in the trailer.
60% of the load weight must be in the
front half of the trailer or the trailer will not pull straight down
the road.
