Before you buy a trailer from anyone, you need to know the answers to these questions.

  1. What are you going to use the trailer for?
Moving, lawn care, haul cars or equipment, display, man toys, trash, storage, local or long distance hauling?

  2. Do you want an enclosed or open trailer?
Do you mind if your items get wet, dirty or stolen?

  3. What is the size of the items you will put in the trailer?
    Length: _____________    Width: ___________  Height: ____________  Weight: ____________
Make sure your items will fit and allow room to move.

  4. Make sure the weight of your items is less than the load capacity of the trailer.

  5. What is the G.V.W.R. of the tow vehicle and of the trailer?
Never exceed the capacity of either.

  6. Do you want a trailer with brakes?
If your trailer has brakes, it will stop faster. If the trailer has brakes the brakes on the tow vehicle will last longer and not get as hot. Trailers with more than one axle are required to have brakes on at least one axle.

  7. Do you want torsion or spring axle?
Spring axles cost less but, the ride is a little rougher. Torsion never breaks, last longer and gives a smoother ride.

  8. What style and how many doors do you want?
Do  you want a ramp door at the rear or double doors? Will you need a side door? Be sure your items fit in the door.

G.V.W.R. stand for Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, which means the weight of the vehicle and everything in it. Including the weight of the passengers.

Curb weight means the weight of the empty trailer.

Load capacity means the weight of the items your putting in the trailer.

60% of the load weight must be in the front half of the trailer or the trailer will not pull straight down the road.
